Break the cycle
a different way
Homelessness runs in cycles.
Reach someone early enough and it stops.
This is Lancashire
Lancashire is a place where people look after one another. But sometimes even that isn’t enough. Every day, people across our communities face homelessness, poor mental health and family breakdown.
That's why Birchwood exists
Sarah's story
At 17, Sarah slept in her trainers because she thought every night might be the one she’d have to leave home. One day, it was. Sarah’s story reflects the journeys of many of the young people Birchwood supports every year. Homelessness doesn’t always mean sleeping rough. Many young people are sofa surfing, living in temporary accommodation or moving from place to place with nowhere safe to call home.
Somewhere safe has to come first
Without somewhere safe to stay, recovery can’t begin. Mental health support, healthcare, education and employment all depend on one thing – a safe, stable place to call home. That’s where Birchwood starts.

40 years of Birchwood
For over 40 years, Birchwood has supported people across Skelmersdale and West Lancashire to rebuild their lives. We provide supported housing, mental health support, counselling and employment services. Most importantly, we stay alongside people until they’re ready to live independently.
This is what stability makes possible

These aren’t ambitions.
They’re what we’re already achieving.
What your donation makes possible
£1,167 provides one young person with a full month of supported housing and wraparound support.
Every donation helps provide a safe room, practical support and the opportunity to rebuild a life.
Campaign Progress:
DONATE NOW
This is what it looks like when it works
Sarah’s room now has:
Photos. Books. College. Friends. Support. A future.
She thought what happened to her would decide the rest of her life. It didn’t. Hundreds more young people across Lancashire are waiting for the same chance.

Help break the cycle
We’re raising £100,000.
When we reach our target, a Birchwood supporter will unlock a further £250,000. Together, that’s a £350,000 programme supporting around 300 people across Lancashire.
Every donation helps another young person find safety, rebuild their confidence and create a future they never thought was possible.
Will you help us break the cycle?
